"Everything rises and falls on leadership." ~ John C. Maxwell

When Israel was wandering from God and oppressed by the Canaanites, God raised up a judge or a prophet to lead them. Today there is a significant gap in local church leadership in the area of community outreach. As a result, a large number of our churches are without vision or ability to reach their community for Christ. SOULS Northwest is committed to developing lay and professional leaders to fill the gap in outreach leadership and move our churches and members to reach their communities for Christ.

"House-to-house labor, searching for souls, hunting for the lost sheep, is the most essential work that can be done." ~Ellen White, Evangelism, p 431

SOULS trains leadership for the house-to-house work—defined as any form of outreach that meets the community where they are (in their home, business, or daily life)—rather than asking them to come to where we are. Literature evangelism, Bible work and health coaching are the main focus of our leadership development efforts.

You might be thinking, "I'm not a leader." You may feel that you don't have natural charisma or a visionary personality, but God could still have a plan to use you to lead others.

"All who pray in simplicity, 'Be thou my pattern,' will walk in Christ’s footsteps; they will reveal that they themselves are striving to follow Christ, and as the natural result they will lead others to seek the higher life." ~ Ellen White, Review & Herald, February 17, 1903

The fact is that God's end-time movement of prophecy needs leaders. It needs young adults to stand up and organize an "army of workers" and take the gospel to the world in this generation.

Qualities of a Leader

Spirituality — Godly leaders are first followers of God, drinking deeply at the well of the water of life. The experiential knowledge of a relationship with God is essential for effective leadership. SOULS encourages personal spiritual growth and provides opportunities to deepen your walk with God.
Diligence — Leaders are first successful because they are self-disciplined and diligent in the duties of life. At SOULS, personal grooming, homework, chores, and ministry all provide opportunities to practice and master diligence. One of the biggest indicators of a diligent leader is one who finishes their assigned task and then goes the extra mile to find more work. Leadership is doing everything with a + sign after it.
Humility — Jesus said that if you want to be first, be last, and if you want to lead, be a servant. While some glamorize and elevate leadership, the mark of a true leader is one who elevates others. To lead in outreach evangelism, you need humility, not greatness. You need a focus on the success of the church members, not on personal attainments or selfish ambition.
Independent thought — "Thinkers do more than accept passively the thinking of others; they endeavor to master what others have said or discovered. Thinkers "contemplate the great facts of duty and destiny:" they are "masters and not slaves of circumstances [possessing] breadth of mind, clearness of thought, and the courage of their convictions." ~ Herbert Douglas, Messenger of the Lord, p 349. SOULS provides a safe environment for you to think for yourself.
Creativity — God designed everyone to be creative, but leaders are distinguished by their creative solutions to problems and their ability to adapt when circumstances change. SOULS helps you sharpen your creative ability and problem solving skills.
Team builder — Planning, strategizing, visioning, and creativity are essential for leadership, but a leader is only taking a walk if no one is following them. SOULS will help you learn how to start a ministry, develop a team of church members, and set up a system of leadership development that will outlast your role at the church.

"There is no line of work in which it is possible for the youth to receive greater benefit. All who engage in ministry are God’s helping hand. ...With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might the end come—the end of suffering and sorrow and sin!" ~Ellen White, Education, 271

God is calling young people to lead. Will you say “Yes!” to God?
